Past Event: August Music Theory Weekly Session

Online music theory classes for beginner-intermediate students in 5th-8th grade.

*some music experience is helpful but not required

*this course has the same content as our one-week course, but will instead be a weekly course spread throughout August. If you attended our first session, feel free to join us again for a review or to receive more help with music theory!

DATE: August 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, 2020

TIME: Saturdays —> 9:00 PM - 10:00 PM EDT (US EASTERN DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME!)

COST: FREE

Starting from the basics, students will learn a variety of topics that will help them understand music at a deeper level. At the end of this four-week program, students will have had the chance to implement the ideas learned from class into their very own mini-composition project.

WEEK 1: note reading, major/minor scales, key signatures, circle of 5ths, scale degrees

WEEK 2: rhythm, rests, time signatures

WEEK 3: intervals and triads

WEEK 4: diatonic chords, cadences, harmony

At the end of this session, you will leave with a video of your very own composition. You will have a chance to choose your own set of accompanying instruments from our instructors/mentors or take on the challenge to play it yourself!
