Past Event: Beginner Music Theory 2021

Our beginner music theory class is suggested for students who have been playing music for 3 years or less, or are entering 7th grade and below. Students will learn how to read music in different clefs, identify keys, and begin interpretive chord theory. Students who take this class should be playing an instrument, enjoy music, and be able to read music confidently in at least one clef.

Technology Requirements: Students must have access to a computer or tablet that can join a zoom class and has a microphone. A video camera is preferred!

TIME: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT

Scheduled Topics:

Monday: Reading Music in Bass Clef and Treble Clef, Learning Whole Steps and Half Steps

Tuesday: Learning Basic Scales and Key Signatures, Voice Motion Types

Wednesday: Intervals, Triad Building in Different Keys (Major and minor, diminished and Augmented)

Thursday: Building Chords on a Scale, Chord Functions

Friday: Basic Roman Numeral Analysis
